story from Shams

Bana and the dream with Shams Association

My name is Bana, I am 11 years old, and I am in the fourth grade. My journey with education was full of challenges, especially since I did not know the Arabic language well, and I was not able to read the Quran. Even at school, I was struggling with mathematics and the Turkish language, and I felt that I was not achieving what I aspired to.

But Mama heard about Shams Association, an association that cares about teaching female students in a unique and comprehensive way. The association offers lessons in Arabic, the Holy Quran, mathematics, and the Turkish language, in addition to useful activities. Everything about it was different. Mama loved the idea very much and registered me in the association in the hope that I would make progress and obtain a certificate, and even have the opportunity to reach high ranks.

With the beginning of the lessons in the association, I began to notice the change. I was receiving support from my teachers and colleagues, and every day I was learning something new. Thanks to God and then the association’s efforts, my skills improved in everything. Now, I am among the top students in school, and I always get full marks in the tests.

I feel proud that next Tuesday I will finish memorizing the part of “Tabarak”, an achievement I never imagined I would achieve. I dream of being like my mother, a lawyer who defends the rights of children in Gaza and Palestine, and helps them achieve justice.

Thank you Shams Association, because it did not only teach us lessons, but taught us how to dream, and how to turn our dreams into reality.

Reem and the success story with Shams Association

My name is Reem, I am 11 years old, and I am one of four sisters and a boy in our family. We live with my aunt who suffers from disability, and my father cannot work due to constant back pain. Our life was not easy, and we did not have the opportunity to go out much or participate in activities.

I always dreamed of learning and developing myself, but there was no opportunity due to our circumstances. Until my mother heard about Shams Association, that association that left a beautiful impression in the hearts of many. My mother decided to register me there, because she was sure that I would learn a lot in an environment full of tenderness and kindness.

At first, I was ignorant of almost everything. I did not know how to read Arabic, I did not understand Turkish, and I was not good at mathematics or the Quran. I felt that I was very far from making any progress.

But when I started in the association, everything changed. Step by step, I started to progress. My level improved in the Quran and Arabic, and I started to learn mathematics better. My teachers were always encouraging me, and treated us with love and care. I felt like I was in a house full of musk scent, where the atmosphere is full of warmth and kindness.

Thanks to God, and with the support of Shams Association, I have become an outstanding student today. I help my younger sisters at home, and teach them what I learn at the association. Even Mama, who cannot read or write, has come to depend on me to read letters, whether in Arabic or Turkish.

I never imagined that I would reach this level. Now, I help my friends at school, and share with them what I learn at the association. My dream is to fulfill Mama’s wish and become a doctor, to help others and give back to everyone who supported me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Shams Association.

Nour… A Journey of Hope from Under the Rubble with Shams Association

My name is Nour, I am 13 years old. I was living with my family in Antakya, in a house full of love and warmth. But in one moment, everything changed. The earthquake that struck our city took my mother, father and little brother away from me, and took a big part of my life with it. I not only lost my family, but also my hand, and today I live with my grandparents in Reyhanli, and I use a prosthetic hand.

After the earthquake, I felt that the world had become a dark and lonely place. I was facing many difficulties, not only because of my new disability, but also because I lost my family. I often felt lonely, especially since people at school would sometimes bully me because of my hand or because I became an orphan.

But my life changed when I entered the community classes program. At first, I was scared and nervous, not knowing how I would be received. But my teachers at the association made me feel something I had not felt in a long time… I felt like I was part of a family.

At the center, I was not just a student; I was their daughter, treated with love and care. I loved the activities they did, and I looked forward to every day I spent there. I learned Arabic with them, memorized the Holy Quran, and gained many skills I thought I would never learn.

Unlike school, where I felt like I was a stranger or different, I found a place where I felt safe and comfortable. I didn’t have to deal with bullying or feeling lonely. Here, no one looked at my prosthetic hand or the loss of my family as something that made me different. They saw me as I was, Noor, a normal girl who deserved love and care.

I sincerely hope that this project continues, and that this center grows to include more children who need this support. Because it wasn’t just a place for education for me; it was a place that gave me back the sense of family and security that I had lost.

Nadia with a needle and thread started a new life

I am Nadia Abdel Rahman, and I would like to share with you my story with the “Himma” sewing project, which was a lifeline for me and my family in our most difficult days.

I heard about the “Himma” project through the Shams Association, the association that has always been by my side, providing me with financial and moral support. At that time, I was following the Rashidi course to correct the recitation of the Holy Quran with the association, and when I learned about the “Himma” project, I felt that this opportunity could be a new beginning for me.

I applied for the project with great hope, especially since I used to work in sewing in Syria, but it was a skill that I stopped practicing after our migration and difficult circumstances. Thank God, I was accepted into the project, and I received the sewing machine that became a gateway to changing my life.

At that time, my financial situation was very bad, and my husband was sick and unable to secure the needs of the house. I felt that I had to move and take responsibility, and I decided to start my sewing project. It started small, as I worked with my neighbors, and over time my name started to spread. The neighbors got to know me and ask for my services, and from here my client base started to grow.

Thanks to God, and thanks to the support of the “Himma” project, I was able to improve my financial situation. I was able to secure my family’s needs, and I started to help my husband with household expenses. This project was not just a source of income, but a source of strength for me. I felt that I had regained a large part of my self-confidence, and I was able to achieve something tangible for my family.

I would like to thank Shams Association and everyone who supported the “Himma” project from the bottom of my heart. You did not only provide us with help, but you gave us new hope and the ability to face life with dignity.

I hope that these wonderful projects that help women prove themselves, achieve their ambitions, and support their families will continue. May God reward you with all good, and make everything you do in the balance of your good deeds.

Fatima from Pain to Hope

My name is Fatima, a mother of three children who all suffer from severe sensorineural hearing loss. My journey was full of difficulties, but with every challenge I looked for a glimmer of hope to restore our lives.

In 2016, I was a refugee in the city of Hama when circumstances forced me to flee the bombing and destruction to protect my children. I left the city alone with my children, after my husband was arrested. We moved to Idlib and then Afrin, and finally we returned to Idlib again, where I applied to enter Turkey to treat my children. Thank God, our application was accepted, and I entered Turkey with my children through the Bab Qatma crossing.

When I arrived in Turkey, I stayed in an orphanage for a long time, not knowing anything about my husband who was detained for three years. When he was released, he was able to join us, but he was suffering from severe psychological and physical effects. Despite his attempts to work in construction, he was involved in an accident that resulted in a broken leg, and he still suffers from pain that prevents him from working regularly.

With all these circumstances, I was trying hard to provide a better life for my children. I started a simple project from home to make sweets and provisions, but the possibilities were very limited and I could not develop it.

During that period, I got to know the Shams Association, and I started receiving psychological support and food aid. When I heard about the “Himma” project, I felt that this was my chance to develop my project and ease the burden on my family. I applied for the project and requested kitchen tools to help me expand my business. Thank God, I was accepted, and this was a new beginning for me.

With the support of the “Himma” project, I was able to develop my business significantly. I began to receive larger orders, secure my family’s needs, and help my husband and daughter who is studying at university. This project was not just a way to improve our income, but it was a turning point that restored my sense of ability to achieve and realize dreams.

Today, I dream of opening a small restaurant, where I employ people who need support, just as I once needed it. I believe that through cooperation and solidarity we can overcome all difficult circumstances.

I would like to thank Shams Association and all its employees for their continuous support, and I hope that their distinguished projects will continue to reach everyone in need. May Allah reward you for all that you have provided to me and my family, and may He place this in the balance of your good deeds.
